Terminator
3 & 4: Nothing
really specifically about the actual films themselves...but
it looks like producers Mario Kassar and Andrew Vajna
really are serious about reviving the Terminator franchise.
The producers have signed a deal with two foreign distributors
Toho Towa and Germany's VCL. While there is currently
no director, cast, or even a U.S. distributor attached,
plans are still in the running for the film to be released
as soon as Summer or Fall of 2001. Teddy Sarafian is
nearly finished with the T3 script while David
Wilson has submitted an 80-page treatment for T4.
A.I.:
More
on the subject of sci-fi, the Hollywood Reporter
has reported an official casting, just one week after
Steven Spielberg's announced plans to pursue this project
started by the late Stanley Kubrick. The trade reports
that Jude Law (The Talented Mr. Ripley) has signed
on-board as a cast member. Furthermore, Haley Joel Osment
(The Sixth Sense) is in negotiations to join
Jude. During an Oscar luncheon, Osment also asked another
2000 Oscar nominee Julianne Moore if she would join
to play his mother. Moore reportedly declined due to
other negotiations, most likely for Hannibal.
Harry
Potter: Variety
is reporting that Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Bicentennial
Man) is currently the number one choice to direct
the fantasy Warner Bros. project. The site reports that
Columbus would be taking on a very difficult task, for
the studio would like to have the project finished in
time for a summer 2001 release. WB holds the rights
to produce three films based on the popular books by
J.K. Rowling.
Mission:
Impossible 2: An
MP3 of Limp Bizkit's single and rendition of the new
MI2 theme song entitled "Now I Know Why You Hate
Me" has been, somehow, released on the Internet,
even though the song does not hit radio airwaves until
mid-April. Due to copyright laws, I cannot post a link
to the file but you can find a link to it at Cinemenium.
Her
Leading Man: What
Kevin Williamson did with the teenage horror genre with
Scream, he hopes to do to the romantic-comedy
drama and he's doing it with Sandra Bullock (or at least
he hopes). Mr. Showbiz
reports that Williamson is pursuing Bullock for his
project which is being headed over at Universal Pictures.
Williamson is planning on producing and directing his
script.
The
Salton Sea: Even
more casting news...the Hollywood Reporter also
reports that Deborah Unger (The Game) has signed
for the female lead in this film, which will pair her
opposite of Val Kilmer. The film will be directed by
D.J. Caruso and will tell the story of a man who witnesses
the murder of his wife. In order to get his revenge,
he goes undercover as a drug dealer. The film is being
produced by Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption,
The Green Mile).
