The trades are revealing today that Ryan Reynolds, fresh off his success on "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," has been cast as the Green Lantern in the upcoming Warner Bros. film adaptation of the DC comic book character. Martin Campbell will be directing based on a script by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green.

Reynolds reportedly beat out Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto for the coveted superhero role.

Shooting is expected to begin in January.
