Variety reports that Relativity Media is in negotiations to finance the "Voltron: Defender of the Universe," a project which has stalled at Fox's New Regency. Relativity hopes to use a more modest budget and utilize technology found in films like "300."

"Voltron" will be based on the 1980s Japanese cartoon and is based on a script by Justin Marks. The script is set in a post-apocalyptic  New York City and Mexico, where five survivors of an alien attack band together and end up piloting the five lion-shaped robots that combine and form the massive sword-wielding Voltron that helps battle Earth's invaders.

Mark Gordon and Jordan Wynn are producing.
