Variety reports that Phillip Noyce is in talks to direct "Edwin A. Salt," a film in which Tom Cruise has been attached to headline for a long time now. Cruise has stayed with the project as it has gone through  a couple of directors, including Terry George and Peter Berg. Kurt Wimmer penned the screenplay.

The movie tells of a CIA officer (Cruise) who is accused of being a Russian sleeper spy. He must escape capture while clearing his name at the same time.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Sunil Perkash will produce the film.
