Variety reports that Warner Bros. is tapping Guy Ritchie ("Snatch") to helm a new Sherlock Holmes film for Lionel Wigram and Dan Lin. Ritchie will also rewrite Tony Peckham's script, based on Wigram's upcoming comic book "Sherlock Holmes." The film is being prepped for a 2010 release.

The studio is reportedly aiming to reinvent Holmes and sidekick Dr. John H. Watson. Wigram's noted that the new Holmes would be more adventuresome and take advantage of his skills as a boxer and swordsman.

The character of Sherlock Holmes was created by Arthur Conan Doyle and first appeared in the late 19th century. He's since been adapted into more than 200 films and TV shows.
