Variety reports that Daniel Day-Lewis is in talks to replace Javier Bardem in "Nine," a musical being directed by Rob Marshall ("Chicago"). Weinstein Co. is handling distribution of the project. Michael Tolkin adapted the screenplay, and Anthony Minghella turned in a rewrite before he died.
"Nine" is based on the musical that inspired Fellini's "8 1/2." Daniel Day-Lewis would play a famous film director who experiences personal and creative crisis while trying to balance all the women in his life. Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Sophia Loren, Nicole Kidman and Judi Dench are among those who will play the women in the movie.
