The Hollywood Reporter announces that Jared Padelecki is the first cast member to join the "Friday the 13th" remake being produced by Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes. Marcus Nispel is directing from a script by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing.

The movie is being billed as a "reboot" of the Jason franchise, which began in 1980 and told the story of a murderous maniac named Jason Vorhees and his reign of terror at Camp Crystal Lake. Padalecki will play a man investigating the murders at Camp Crystal Lake.

The movie is being slated for a February 13, 2009 release.
