Two updates on two independent films from The Hollywood Reporter today:

• John Goodman, Ed Asner and Jane Alexander will join "Gigantic," an indie romantic comedy starring Paul Dano and Zooey Deschanel. Dano will play a depressed mattress salesman whose quest to adopt a Chinese baby is sidetracked when he falls for Happy. Asner will play the salesman's father while Alexander will play the mother. Shooting is underway in New York City

• Anne Heche will replace Jennifer Jason Leigh in "Spread," a romantic comedy which will star Ashton Kutcher. The movie will tell of a womanizer and the lover he scorns. David Mackenzie is directing the feature.
