Variety reports that Christian Bale will be starring opposite Johnny Depp in Michael Mann's "Public Enemies." Universal Pictures will distribute the eventual film. Shooting is expected to begin in March.

Bale will play Melvin Purvis, the FBI agent who led the manhunt for famed criminal John Dillinger. Depp will be playing the role of John Dillinger.
