Variety reports that Alan Arkin has joined the cast of "Marley & Me," in which Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston will star in this film based on the bestselling book by John Grogan. Scott Frank is the latest writer to adapt the book.

David Frankel is directing the story about a Philadelphia newspaper columnist (Wilson) who, along with his wife (Aniston), decide to adopt a puppy in order to get a taste of parenting. They get a Labrador retriever who turns out to be a headache but ends up turning their lives around.

Arkin will play an editor at the writer's newspaper.
