Variety reports that Robert De Niro will reteam with "Heat" director Michael Mann for "Frankie Machine," a project being setup at Paramount Pictures. De Niro will co-produce with partner Jane Rosenthal.

Don Winslow penned the book about a retired mob hitman who retires to run a bait shop. He agrees to help the son of a mob boss over a dispute with another Mafioso. But when he realizes he has been setup to be killed, he comes out of retirement to become Frankie Machine once again.

Brian Koppelman and David Levien penned the screenplay.
