Variety reports that Karl Urban ("The Lord of the Rings," "Doom") has joined the cast of JJ Abrams' "Star Trek" project where he will play Leonard "Bones" McCoy.

He joins a growing cast of young talent including Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Eric Bana as well as Leonard Nimoy.

Shooting for "Star Trek" will take place in November and will continue into March.
