Gerard Butler in Frank Miller's "300"

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Gerard Butler ("Phantom of the Opera") has signed for "300," a film adaptation of the Frank Miller comic novel. Zack Snyder will be directing for Warner Bros. Pictures.

The film will tell the true story of 300 elite Spartan warriors led by the king Leonidas (Butler), who thwart the charge of Xerxes and his massive Persian army at the battle of Thermopylae.

The studio is looking to make the film in the style of the graphic novel, which Miller wrote and drew in 1998.

Much like Miller and Robert Rodriguez did with "Sin City," Warner Bros. plans to utilize heavy green screen in order to recreate the graphic feel of the comic for film.
