By Thomas Chau A relatively fresh, but very beautiful, face graces the film "The Big
Bounce," the heist comedy based on the novel by Elmore Leonard. Sara Foster,
who had previously only appeared in model shoots and MTV's "ET on MTV,"
makes her feature film debut as Nancy Hayes. In the movie, Nancy plays love
interest to Jack Ryan (Owen Wilson). Nancy - a stunning knockout blonde - has
something up her sleeve when she convinces Jack into hatching a scheme in order
to steal $250,000 from Ray Ritchie (Gary Sinese,) a real estate tycoon she is
having an affair with. Below is what Sara had to say about the movie and working with Owen Wilson. Q: What was it like to be a female with all this testosterone around you?
SARA: Um, it was awesome! It was fun to be the only girl with all these awesome
men. It was great. It might have been a little bit easier in the beginning if
I had have had [more females] cause Bebe Neuwirth didn't really come in towards
the end, so I was doing most of the heavy lifting for us females. Q: How easy does Owen Wilson make it for you to work with? SARA: He makes it so easy. He makes you look good. If you're mediocre, he makes
you look good. If you look good, he makes you look great. He brings it out in
you. I don't know what it is, but he's so charming and funny and easy to work
with. He's going to make a great director someday because he does that and he
was really helpful. Q: Did you read the book before you began filming? SARA: I hadn't read the book and I hadn't seen the movie because they made
the film with Ryan O'Neal years back. I thought about it and I said "OK,
I want to rent the movie and I want to read the book." But then I thought
that I didn't want to, because I wanted to create Nancy from the very beginning.
I didn't want any preconceived notions or any of that. I didn't want it to conflict
with how I wanted to develop her. Q: How much freedom did you have in developing your character Nancy? SARA: I had a good amount and Owen helped me with that actually. A lot of the
stuff you saw was improv. There were a few scenes that they actually kept were
just us doing a little outline in the morning and then [going] with it. Everyone
was really open to my ideas and my opinions, which I wasn't sure would be the
case. So, we kind of developed her as we went. Q: Is doing your first feature film a little daunting for you? You were
a model and did a little TV... SARA: Nothing compared to this. Daunting is a good word. (Laughs) That's kind
of the word I've been using. It was surreal and daunting. I don't even know
how to explain it. When you walk onto a set for your first film, and Morgan
Freeman's in his chair and Owen Wilson is in that chair...everyone on the set
has won some sort of crazy award in their life. I didn't know how people were
going to react to me. People couldn't have been more open and generous. Q: Who ended up impressing you the most? SARA: I was most nervous to meet Morgan and that was only because I hadn't
met him before arriving in Hawaii. I spent a little bit of time with Owen before
we arrived [in Hawaii]. In preproduction, we spent a little bit of time together.
Owen, I worked with the most. A majority of my scenes were with him and I'm
the president of his fan club, to say the least. Q: Was it a scary thing to begin modeling at 16? SARA: Modeling's strange because it is all about "this." People say
it's all about your personality but it's not. This is definitely more for me
- acting. I can't really sit still. In modeling, I get yelled at a lot, like
"Stop moving!" Q: Tell us a little bit about your upcoming movie "D.E.B.S." SARA: "D.E.B.S." is crazy. People are going to come out of it saying
that it felt like a little bit of a "Charlie's Angels" spoof. It's
a group of girls who become part of a secret society. They take a secret test,
which is in the back of the S.A.T. and it measures your ability to lie, cheat,
steal and my character has the perfect score. We're out to catch this diamond
thief, played by Jordana Brewster, who is a wonderful actress. Michael Clarke
Duncan is also our ringleader. We're all in schoolgirl uniforms so it's very
funny. "The Big Bounce" opens in theaters this Friday.
