Variety reports that Spike Jonze ("Adaptation") has been hired by Universal to direct the film adaptation of the classic children's book by Maurice Sendak. The book, which was originally published in 1963, will be made into a live-action film rather than CGI film, as previously planned. It told the story of a boy sent to bed without supper, where he uses his wild imagination to come up with a forrest full of exotic creatures who crown the boy their ruler. Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman will produce with John Carls and the author, Maurice Sendak.
