Quaid cast in lead "Alamo" role

Variety reports that Dennis Quaid is set to reteam with "The Rookie" director John Lee Hancock in "The Alamo" where he will play Sam Houston. Shooting will begin in January with a potential holiday 2003 release. Billy Bob Thorton has already been cast in what will be an ensemble cast.

Houston was an ex-governor of Tennessee who led troops to avenge the Alamo and defeat Mexican leader Santa Ana.
