In an interview with "X-Files" series creator Chris Carter, Cinescape (http://www.cinescape.com) reveals that his plans are to get the "X-Files" theatrical sequel up in theaters by 2004.

“It’s definite [in so far] as everyone has expressed their desire to do it, including the studio,” Carter said. “I hope to write it over the summer, prep it over the fall and spring, and shoot it late spring and next summer. I think you would end up seeing it in 2004… I have rough ideas and I’m sort of deciding what to do.”

"The X-Files 2" will be more of a continuation of the movie and not the television series. Once such difference will be that David Duchovny is set to reprise his role as Agent Mulder in the film.
